Brief

Analyzed and created map layout for Navarro River watershed on the coast of Northern California.

Watersheds are often good areas of interest because in using them for boundaries, we usually preserve ecological units within them rather than artificially splitting them up. First, I selected all features that were part of the Navarro River. Then, I joined drainage information to each stream segment. Then, I subsetted streams by drainage area greater than 50 square kilometers. Then, I used the buffer tool to find out what soils are near the portions of the watershed with large flows. Finally, I used a spatial join to attach soil information to the buffered streams.

The tools I used include setting Data Frame Projection, Selection: Select by Location, Selection: Select by Attributes, Data Management: Add Join, Add Field, Field Calculator, Analysis: Buffer, Analysis: Spatial Join, Symbology, Layouts.
